Preservation Incorporated is a partnership between William C. S. Remsen, Chief Preservation Architect, International Preservation Associates, Inc., and Ian K. M. Stewart, Owner of New Netherland Timber Framing and Preservation. We are known for our flexible problem-solving skills in cultural preservation. Bringing together diverse and overlapping skills and decades of experience in various aspects of the preservation field, we create effective solutions for issues in preservation and presentation, including long-term planning and project management. Our experience enables us to assemble “dream teams” of specialists to effectively tackle large, complex, and unique problems for museums, estates, and diverse historic sites throughout the world.
William C. S. Remsen, RA, is a founding partner of Preservation Inc., a firm specializing in the assessment, documentation, conservation, and presentation of stone, brick, mud brick, and wood historic buildings and cultural heritage and archaeological sites. He is a registered architect, a professional member of the American Institute of Conservation (AIC), a certified member of AIC’s emergency National Heritage Responders team, and a certified historic preservation building assessor for AIC’s Collection Assessment for Preservation (CAP) program. He has over 35 years of experience with cultural heritage preservation projects in the U.S., Cyprus, Egypt, Turkey, Malta, Chile (Easter Island), Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, the UK, Yugoslavia, and Iran.
Ian K.M. Stewart is the co-founding partner of Preservation Inc., as well as the owner and founder of New Netherland Timber Framing and Preservation, LLC, a firm that specializes in the preservation of built heritage through assessment, documentation, and physical conservation and restoration. New Netherland Timber Framing and Preservation puts great emphasis on the preservation of traditional woodworking and other historic craft skills, tools, and techniques. He has 18 years of preservation experience working on a wide variety of historic buildings and cultural heritage sites around the United States. He has also worked with and consulted for several notable museums.
